Annie Creek Restaurant and Gift Shop is named for
Annie Creek, which runs adjacent to Mazama Village. The Friends have
built footbridges and maintained the Annie Creek Trail for several
Project Weekends. Annie Gaines was the 19 year old sister in law of the
commander of nearby Fort Klamath. She accompanied a party of explorers
and in 1865 was the first know woman to reach Crater Lake's
shores.

The main dining room with the large fireplace and
vaulted ceilings. The building used numerous environmentally sustainable
construction techniques.

Friends visiting Crater Lake National Park this year will find a new
restaurant and gift shop at Mazama Village, just before the South
Entrance Station. Friends who have been following the rehabilitation of
Crater Lake National Park Rim Village remember that part of the plan was
to relieve visitor pressure on the Rim Village with concession
facilities at Mazama Village. Construction of Annie Creek Restaurant and
Gift Shop was well underway when the Friends were at Crater Lake for the
August Project Weekend and during the October Annual meeting,
construction was preparing for winter.
The buffet restaurant was open and I ate there after the Friends
June Board Meeting. The interior is as attractive as the outside with a
large fireplace in the dinning room and beautiful lighting fixtures.
There was still some work to be finished on the fireplace.

I especially liked the lighting fixtures. They
were different from any others I had seen.
