PRESIDENT'S REPORT by Greg Reddell The Friends of Crater Lake had a very good annual meeting October 2. I thank all the Friends who attended. We had a beautiful fall day at Crater Lake for the Annual Meeting. The 1999 annual meeting will be remembered as a rehearsal for Y2K. Shortly before the seminars started, at a crucial portion of the day, morning coffee and rolls, the power was turned off for some maintenance. George Buckingham, the Friends Liaison, had the Crater Lake Fire Engine standing by. When the lights went George and the Rangers ran out electric cords, turned on flood lights, and turned on the electric generator on the fire engine to provide light in the community building. The morning seminars went very well with the fire truck's generator. Kent Taylor started the seminars with a presentation on the restoration of the Watchman Fire Lookout. Steve Mark followed with a walk on the trail the Friends worked on during the volunteer weekend in late August. Following lunch at the Caldera Restaurant I called the annual meeting to order. After project reports, Beverly Paulson from the nominating committee, nominated Greg Hartell, Glenn Kaye, and Marvin May to the board. I was reelected as President of the board at the brief board meeting that followed the annual meeting. The board will have a busy year coming up. The Friends thank Bev Hartell and Alice Hatch for their hard work on the board for the Friends. I have relied on their expertise and assistance. The project report at the annual meeting was a good review of our busy 1999 season. I am hoping a project can be found to replace the Collomia Mazama Planting. Please plan ahead and mark the events on your calendar for this coming year. The Trail Project Weekend in August 1999 involved the Friends constructing the new Park Headquarters Historic Walking Tour in Munson Valley. I attended Marsha McCabe's refresher on staffing the Winter Rim Information Desk November 20. I hope to see Friends when I am at the winter desk on some weekends this winter. When (or if) I get this newsletter done, I will be starting on Christmas Cards. I hope the Christmas Cards get done faster then this newsletter. I am starting to get excited about the musical events I will be participating in this Holiday Season! I am excited about the Christmas Concert next weekend, December 4, with the Klamath Symphony, December 9 and the Snowflake Parade in Klamath Falls, and December 11 for the Christmas Tuba Festival in Medford.
